Since June 2006, the Net Overseas Migration figures have been a key driver of Australia’s population growth.

Net Overseas Migration was forecast to be -96,600 in 2020-21 (down from +194,400 in 2019-20). This is the first year that the Net Overseas Migration figure has been a net outflow since 1946 – a significant variance in our economic data.

Again in 2021-22, a net outflow is expected of -73,400, the second year of a COVID-19 affected economy.

The Net Overseas Migration is expected to return to an estimated +95,000 in 2022-23, and continue to grow to +235,000 by 2024-25, at which it is expected to remain until 2060-61.
